Romanian Lectureship
History
Founded in 1999, as a subdivision of the Romanian Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation, the Romanian Language Institute has over 51 Romanian Lectureships in 37 countries across three continents: Europe, Asia and America. At a regional level, the Romanian Lectureship established at ASU is the third (after the ones created at Glendon College, York University, Canada, and Columbia University, USA), but it is the first lectureship of such magnitude, functioning within the only Romanian Department in an American academic institution (ASU).
On September 1, 2011, under the Protocol signed between the Romanian Language Institute and the School of International Letters and Cultures, a new Romanian Lecturer in the ASU Romania Studies Program was inaugurated in the US academia.
The Romanian Language Lecturers at ASU in chronological order are Carmen Borbely (2011-2012), Horia Poenar (2012-2013), Zoia Manolescu (2013-2017), IonuČ› Geana (2018-2021), Iosefina Blazsani-Batto (2022-2023), and Oana Ursache (December 2023 - ongoing).
